yea i did it tons of ways before i did it correctly haha tighten the tension pulley a bit to get the slack out, then do 1/4 turn on the crank, after that you should be good to tighten the tension...

that should work fine, i had the same problem with the crank and lack of hands. it is pretty sensitive at TDC. the only thing i did differently from the pdf attachment jlicrx gave you was that...

so i went at it again today and had similar results. i got the timing down perfectly thanks to yalls advice, i got the engine to fire up again, but it is still running rough. it would die soon after...

so the belt slipped when trying to start it? i didnt turn the crank at all before tightining the tension pulley, so ill have to try that method along with removing the valve cover and throwing in...

JD, i double checked the extra wiring from the dizzy (blue/green, blue/yellow) and it is correctly plugged into the exhaust cam like you said. where is the CPS on the exhaust cam? i guess im asking...

code 9 is a cylinder sensor and have no idea what to do to help that....any ideas?

the car is a 88 ef, the chassis wiring harness is a 89 si and the engine harness should be the stock 88 ef (unless the previous owner changed it but i dont think he did). so ill look for a 89 si...
