Enduring Popularity

The S2000 is famous for a number of reasons, and it's an impressive machine on many levels. But perhaps the most intriguing thing about Honda's masterpiece is its enduring popularity. And even now, many years after production ceased, companies like Evasive Motorsports are continuing to push the envelope, as we see in their latest build featured over at Super Street.

Going Way Back

Evasive has been tinkering with S2000s since they picked up their first one back in 2004. So needless to say, they've learned a thing or two about these cars over the years.

Track Ready

Evasive has also always been highly involved with track events, and they've got quite a bit of experience at Time Attack and even Pikes Peak. So when it came time to build an S2000 for the track, the team knew exactly what they needed to do.

Logic Reasoning

Obviously, Evasive could have chosen anything to build a Time Attack car with. But they have many viable reasons to go with an S2000.

Underdog?

"The S2000 was a very big part of our success," explained co-founder Mike Change. "Reason being, it's a driver-focused car. We were able to extract a lot out of it. It's an underdog in the Time Attack world, and from that, we built awareness around how this car is and started a movement toward tracking your S2000. It's one of those cars that's so different and unique, new cars won't replace it. There is always going to be people tracking these cars, and people are still invested in them even after 20 years."

Fourth Time's a Charm

This particular car is Evasive's fourth such S2000 build. The first was an AP1 that set several records at Super Lap in the Street Class. The second was a red car that also claimed its fair share of records. The third car was a more aggressive customer build with some pretty aggressive aero.

Latest and Greatest

The latest build debuted at last year's SEMA show and is awaiting the start of this year's Super Lap. But judging by how this monster turned out, we don't doubt it'll follow in its predecessor's footsteps.

Aggressive Aero

That all starts with the car's aggressive aero, as Chance points out. "Visually, the aero is as extreme as it gets. It's a Voltex kit derived from the Top Fuel S2000, which has been competing in Japan for a while—the fastest S2000 in the world. Voltex has done so much research with wind tunnel and track testing, and it's made many refinements throughout the years. Our kit is a toned-down version of the Top Fuel kit. While theirs is built for 800 to 900 hp, ours is built for 500 hp. It's designed to not have as much downforce with the least amount of drag."

Going to Extremes

All of that aero goodness doesn't come cheaply, of course. Voltex's kit set the crew back a whopping $29,500. Aside from that, weight savings measures were taken to the extreme with J's Racing composite doors, an Evasive-made carbon trunk, and a fully gutted interior.

New Level

Of course, this S2000 also features the requisite brake and suspension upgrades. Its F22 heart utilizes a Toda stroker kit, HKS prototype supercharger, and reworked heads to produce 500 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. With a 7-speed sequential gearbox, it's going to be quick. And perhaps more importantly, it's taking what is essentially an old car to an entirely new level.
