I'm currently 155lbs 5' 10" and happy with how I look. I will not be doing much bulking as I will be fighting at 145. I'm not sure what my current body fat is but i can see veins on my abdomen and shoulders.

I'm back and unhealthier than ever! I took a year off due to some personal and physical issues. Some of you know what I went through.

Anyway, time to go back at it full force. My goal is to gain as much muscle as possible. I'm a skinny guy and a lot of my muscles seem to have disappeared :P

As of 11/12/09 I am exactly 5'8" @ 139.4lb (with gym clothes on).

Once again, my goal is to gain as much muscle as possible. Currently in my cupboard I have whey protein, amino acid complex and gnc megamen sport multis. I have taken creatine (cell-tech) and my body responded well to it so I wouldn't mind taking it again. I'll have to think about that some more.

Today for lunch I ate a Chipotle burrito bowl. Pinto beans, vegetables, carne asada, mild sauce, sour cream, rice and lettuce. Tortilla on the side.

For dinner I ate yaki soba with two chicken legs.

My post workout drink was just 100% whey protein in vit d milk.

i just need your motivation. If you have any constructive criticism, throw it at me like you'd throw a brick at a window. I'll take anything and everything.

Thank you :)

I was born with a hernia, I recall the surgery to have it fixed/removed or whatever they do to make it go away; I don't recall how old I was but I was for sure under 10. I'm 23 now, and I have the 3 inch or so scar in my pubies from it and sometimes it feels like the scar is pulling and is really discomforting. I lift 4-5 days a week and sometimes doing lateral pull downs it hurts, some ways I pull my legs up or stretch out it hurts or just doing random stuff it feels like it pulls; this isn't all the time, it's pretty random.

Has anyone else had this happen? I'm hoping I don't have another one or something else is occurring.

Start Date: 11.08.09

Objective: Learn, learn, learn.
Secondary Objective: Compete in a NAS Silver event in 2010 in the 230+ category.
Secondary Objective: Place in a NAS Silver event.

I have the good fortune to know an ASC professional that trains at my gym. I won't name drop, but he competed in this year's Olympia competition back in September, and he is more than compitent in his training. If you're unfamiliar with the ASC as an organization, their athletes routinely train and compete with weight that exceeds what you see at The World's Strongest Man competitions on ESPN. As it turns out, TWSM is more about publicity and appearance than actual toughness of events. I'm not discrediting what their athletes do, but in the sphere of professional strongmen, the event isn't held in high regard. It's more of a money-making venture than a true test of strength. I guess my point is that the guy I'm training with (my "coach") knows what he's doing.

There is also a NAS Platinum level NAS competitor (the highest level of amatuer status) and another NAS member that trains within the group.

The split generally is worked as follows:

Monday: Biceps, cardio, abdominals
Tuesday: Squats
Wednesday:Overhead Presses
Thursday: Off
Friday: Deadlifts
Saturday: Off
Sunday: Event training

Interestingly enough, biceps play a larger role in strongman training than your other sports in hand-over-hand pulls and other such events. Another interesting factor with this split is that the group travels to a gym in the next state on Tuesdays to learn squats from a powerlifter with a recorded 1,200lbs squat. It's impressive, to say the least, and I hope to learn a lot.

Sunday 11.08.09 Event Training

Axle Clean & Press

An awkward event to learn if you're unfamiliar with it. I'm not sure of the axle's diameter, but it is nearly impossible to clean the weight with a double overhand grip once you're into decent weight. Thus you must clean the weight with an alternated (under/over) grip to your high stomach, let it rest, and switch your under hand to an overhand grip while the axle is still resting on your upper abs. It was difficult to get the hang of.

After switching your grip, you hang clean the weight from your high abs to your chest, and push press the weight for reps.

Axle (70lbs)

120lbs x 5, x 5, x 6
130lbs x 5, x 3

Tire Flip

This is pretty self-explanatory. The technique is similar to driving out of a 4-point stance with your hands cupped, flipping your leg, switching your grip to an overhand, and driving with your arms.

600lb Tire

5 flips

Truck Row

Sitting in a 1,500lb tire and rowing a large diameter rope attached to a Dodge Ram 2500.

This was kind of a jerry-rigged event the more experienced guys came up with on a whim.

I did one pull with the parking brake off, but it's quite easy once the truck gets rolling. I cannot do it with the parking break engaged.

To give you an idea of the guys I'm training with, the pro did 305 x 5, x 7, x 8 on the axle, and the pro/platinum am. flipped a 1,500lb tire x 2. There is a seriously few number of people that can do that. It's impressive to be training with these guys. I'm 6'2" 255lbs, and I'm the "little guy" of the bunch.

Going to deload this next week coming down from 5/3/1, and then will join this group with their training split week after next.

Hope this thread is useful/entertaining.

Is the following situation plausible?

I, like many others, recently reconnected with an acquaintance from high school. When I last saw him in 2004, he was 6'3" and (legitimately) approximately 150lbs. Without exaggeration, his thighs were barely larger than his femur. The quadricep was almost totally negligent.

In 2009, I noticed a few pictures he uploaded onto Facebook, and he is a totally different person. He is 6'3" 245-255lbs. His legs look like someone took off spare cuts of beef and wrapped them around the bone. His abdominals are individually recognizable, which should place his body fat percentage close to 10%, correct?

Lifts are as follows:

Bench: 315 x 1, 250 x 8
Squat: 530 x 1, 320 x 20
DL: 560 x 1, 350 x 18

He claims this was achieved by purely diet and training correctly. I would like to know the opinions of other educated lifters as to the plausibility of this claim. I'm not looking to start an argument about or promote illegible substances, nor take away from the hard work of natural lifters. This is just astonishing to me, though. It's quite the transformation. Considering the results, is that claim even realistically possible?

diet could be better but im starting to go back to my salad diet and protein, no way am i able to eat 5-6 meals a day because of work and school and my sleep pattern isnt the greatest neither since i work nights

after being in the gym for a couple months, i finally hit my goal of max benching 315 free weight, one rep 2 sets only using muscle milk protein, no other form of supplement for energy boost

future plan is lose like 20lbs (or try) and bench 320, hardest part would be the weight loss

most if my extra weight is belly fat so thats even harder to get rid off

any constructive criticism is welcome
