Or if you have road both bikes that would be great. also i dont know if there is a for sale section but i couldn't find it but i have 2k for a bikeand by january i will have 3500 for a bike so if anyone has a good bike for a low price let me know and nothing before 2005... cause if anything i would just finance a new bike for and they have 09 gsxr for 8k down here...

I just got back from the track about an hour ago and unloaded the bike. All in all, I had a great weekend and ran my fastest laps out at Willow Springs on the big track. I'll put some details in later if I feel up to it, but I'll shorten it for now.

My race was race 3 of the day today, Novice Lightweight 0-500cc. 6 lap sprint race around Willow. I practiced all day yesterday and brought my best lap down to a 1:48.9 on my Ninja 250 (29hp and 105mph top speed ftw). I also did both practices in the warm up this morning and was feeling good.

I slightly bogged the start but managed to make it into 8th out of 15 or so in turn 1. I made 3 good passes on the first lap (turn 3 & turn 4) and was running a great pace. Turn 2 of the second lap comes up and two new riders go in too hot (or so they thought) and let off the throttle. I was in the process of passing both of them on the outside when the inside rider wobbled. The girl between us saw the wobble...and wobbled herself, pushing me wide. I was already making an outside pass and didn't have much tire or track left, but tried to stay up. Turning in from being pushed out, I tucked the front at about 70mph and lowsided out into the gravel.

My first thought was, "damn, I'm out of the race," which was quickly followed by, "ouch, my leathers are getting hot". It was my first crash ever at the track and was largely attributed to my risky move. I'm not one to put others at risk (no hairy inside passes for me), but I made the mistake of running a hot line and relying on the other riders to hold their respective lines. When that went bad, I went down.

Damage to the bike isn't too bad. Luckily the bars my friend Steve made are pretty strong and saved the bodywork for the most part. Two dents in the tank, one bent bar, both rearsets and shifter bent/broken, tail fairing cracked half-way off, exhaust can busted, sight glass leaking oil, and my bruised bum. Made it out without serious injury thanks to my gear. I have a gnarly raspberry on my thigh and some rug burn where my leathers moved around. I feel lucky.

Pics...

***This is from an old thread I did on thumpertalk, just to give you background on the issue:***

Hi everyone, here's the deal, I bought an 00 xr400 in the Florida through a friend and had it shipped to venezuela, cause the bike cost me a total of $2500 instead of the $5000 they go for here. Once I got the bike I assembled it and put something like 3/4 of a gallon gas in the tank just to start it and sputter around, bike starts just fine, half choked it takes 2 or 3 kicks to get it fired, once it's warm it fires up without choke with a single kick everytime.

I rode it just around the block and everything seemed fine, a couple of days later I rechecked all bolts for tightness added another half a gallon and went for a longer ride, just when I was getting back home the bike started backfiring except when I gave it very little to no throttle. I thought it was probably just out of gas, so I parked the bike, filled the whole tank and went for another ride, to my surprise the bike has kept with the bogging and backfiring after a certaint rpm or throtle opening (near WOT).

I have ever since changed the coil, and taken the carb apart to clean it. It has a 162 main that looked to be in pristine shape, everything in the carb looked to be perfect, no dirt, slime or worn parts.

Bike has an E series white brother exhaust, and foam filter(can't remember the brand) but it is in the stock airbox with no snorkel. The bike has no headlight just in case that matters lol. I live at about 3000ft over sea level and temperatures range from 20 to 33 degrees C. Do you guys think the jetting might be the issue? I tried running leaner by using the first groove on the needle instead of the 3rd and it seemed to ruin the part throttle area, which was fine and not help at all in the WOT area.

I doubt It has to do with jetting due to the fact the bike managed to ride fine but I'm open to all opinions.

***NEW INFO***

Since then I have, replaced the spark plug with a properly gapped one, I got a new coil and wire. I tore down the stock carb a billion times, I dropped 2 sizes in the main needle and 1 in the slow jet, and all combinations posible with those jets. That didnt solve anything. One day im going to try to see what the issue is, and it just starts and rides fine, going wot in 2nd would lift the front straight from low rpm. After about a month of fun on the bike the issue came back.

I searched on TT.com and I found that stock xr400 carbs suck, so I went ahead and got a mikuni pumper carb from XR's only. They ask for heigth and level of mods to the bike in order to ship you a carb with the correct jetting. I got the carb put it on and....no improvemnt. Now the bike fires up on the first kick instead of the 2nd or 3rd which is great, but it still bogs at high rpm or around 85% throttle.

So today, I take the stator down and check the whole wiring, everything seems normal, but I have yet to test the stator output. Assembled everything, went for a ride, and the bike just dies on me, I parked it somewhere safe, started it like half an hour later on the first kick and the bick was working just fine with a lot of power. I noticed I was running from the reserve "tank", so I thought maybe the petcock was clogged, I just cleaned the whole tank and petcock and now the bogging is back.

So, I would think fuel is not the issue here since the bike runs fine from time to time, apparently when it feels like it. Im guessing its some kind of electric mistery.

Basically, do you guys have any idea on what I should do or check, im really lost here, I have never had this much trouble pinpointing an issue.

Thanks,
Stefano

I've found a deal on a 2001 Honda CBR 600 F4i, the guy has it for 2500 w/biding, I'm going to try to see if I can work out a deal with him and try to get him to sell it for around 3k, I live close to him so if I can work it out with him, perhaps he wont sell it on ebay and save some cash, and it would easy for him because he'd get a check and I'd be picking it up. No one has bid on it so far, and no watchers.. I'm just going to give this a shot.. if it works great, if it doesnt I'm a patient guy and I can find another bike. But before I go through all the trouble I'd like to get some facts.

I know hondas in general are reliable cars, and behind them is good engineering. I'd think the company would also put good engineering behind their bikes. I know the CBR series is well known.. But on a bike that revs up to 14k I can see how the wear and tear would be different, and one would not expect the engine to get up to 100k the way a car would.. So on this deal, the catch is that it has 25,000 miles on it. I dont mind it so much, as long as the engine and transmission last. I'm sure it could last if the owner babies it.. but it's a 600cc sports bike. I'd think every rider who rode it floored it every opportunity they got, so it's not been babied. I know I would be flooring it.. so with that in mind how far can these bikes go before major things start showing up?

I'm not aware of any problems.. some scratches and what not but that's all I'm aware of. I'm going to be contacting him and asking him about that. But I'm going to assume there are no major issues. On that note, when I get it(if I get it) I think a good service would be a great idea. I'm going to replace all the fluids with quality ones, and do a check up on everything to make sure things are in decent condition. ie Redline oils.

So I know I will personally be treating the bike well, although I will still abuse it for speed.. hehe.. but to be honest.. I'm not sure if I'm going to go faster than 70mph any time soon. I do realize the danger of speeding. So for the most part I'm going to go around the speed limit, I just know I will be accelerating fast.

So with these concidered, I'm going to go back to my original question... how reliable will it be? And how long can I expect it to last? I'm a college student, and I work hard for my money. I dont want to put out 3k on a piece of junk that will require a few more grand on rebuilds anytime soon.

This is more of a rant than anything else but...

Over the last 6 months almost all of my local riding friends have departed from motorcycles to some extent. I've lost a few to the "I ride street because I don't want to total my pretty bike on the track". I've lost a few to the "my girlfriend doesn't like riding and I need a car to drive her around in". I've lost more to giving up the game entirely.

All this comes at a time when I am more passionate about performance riding than I've ever been. It sucks, but the sad truth is that most of the people near Santa Barbara that do ride only ride on the street and are quite squidly.

I didn't ride at all from March through October due to my arm surgery and now that I'm coming back into things, I have fewer friends that ride. It's a bummer to say the least.

Thoughts? Words of Wisdom? Remarks? :crook:

What's the longest distance you've traveled on your motorcycle? Was it for a trip/cruise? Was it worth it? Can you describe your trip? What are the differences between traveling in a car and a motorcycle for a huge trip? What kind of bike was it?

Edit: (added more questions)
